Effects of Different Pruning Systems on Fruit Quality and Yield in California Wonder Peppers (Capsicum annuum L.) Grown in Soilless Culture

This study was conducted to determine the effects of four pruning methods (Non-pruned, two, three and stem pruning) on some growth parameters, yield fruit quality in California Wonder Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.). The experiment carried out between April September 2020 a climate controlled venlo type glass research greenhouse with automation system.In this study, two commercial pepper Rapido Roxy (Rapido: red color Roxy: yellow color) varieties were used. Seedlings transplanted cocopeat slabs grown soilless culture. designed according randomized plots 3 replicates each including 8 plants. Pruning applications-leaving branches significantly increased plant height, fresh weight diameter compared non-pruned weight, length diameter. SPAD leaves value, flesh thickness, firmness, Brix EC values positively affected by methods. However, no effect pH determined. Total per reduced plants, except for 4 branch pruning. reduction number left rate marketable fruit. To conclude, it determined that decrease decreased non-marketable fruits, especially as well yield.
